Building Capacity as Missions
One of the challenges for Team 1 has been the gritty–very gritty– work of building capacity. To free up Team 2 & 3 for more typical missional work, we’ve been getting the camp safely set up, developing the logistical systems for our Campus Ministry teams of 50 faculty and students — in addition to the 75 plus volunteers from Gain Canada, churches and medical teams.
Nevertheless, our team has shown the Jesus Film to over 900 Haitians, seen over a 100 indicated decisions. Distributed to idp camps over 500 “literal” survival kits (food, hygiene, etc). equally important we’ve spent every day in conversation, worship, bible study, prayer, weeping, with over 20 Haitian CCC leaders who will lead the future Kingdom efforts in Haiti long after this summer. They represent the capacity for real Kingdom change for Haiti. The loss of Cherubin on Friday has cemented our love for Haiti and for Haitians and their love for us–more capacity exists now in the swollen hearts caused by our joint sorrow.
Today, we’ve got planned another idp distribution, Jesus film showings, possible English camps on Friday and Saturday, more time everyday in the Scriptures modeling discipleship–several Haitians are leading our learning community groups this morning–leading Americans in the Scriptures is something they would not have believed themselves capable of. One leader told Shannon that she would do it–”if Shannon sat next to her.”
That’s not a bad metaphor for Team 1, “sitting next to the future of Haiti” encouraging one another until Jesus’ name and renown is known in every heart and every place,
