Food, Shelter & Water
I wanted you to know who is feeding us here–a lovely movement of chefs. Dave is our current Mercy Chef, and we are very thankful for them.

Like Lisa Hereford, Dave volunteers with MercyChefs several times a year. With over 42 years experience as a chef, he brings creative energy to limited options and in a spirit of sacrifical service and of Christ’s compassion, tries to make us comfortable and healthy by feeding us well. Living in the “kitchen” under a misquito net, he’s up early and down late taking care of us.

Mission trips make for interesting breakfast conversation:
Bethany: “I’m not looking forward to my own bed as much as being able to wake up when I want, and not when it gets too hot to lie flat at 6 am”
Chandler: “Really? I’m just looking forward to remembering what its like to not itch anymore.”
Bethany: “Chandler has 152 bites. We counted them.”
Kim: “Christy…last night Liz and I were attacked by a lizard. Liz was hyper-ventilating. We called Ryan Kilboy to come and kill it, but he never came.”
Liz: “You know that ‘eh eh eh’ sound we hear at night? That’s the lizards.”

The photo below was taken after 30 hours using samples taken immediate prior to and after the Embry-Riddle solar powered water purification unit.

The test is a presence or absence test for the types of bacteria that indicate bad drinking water. The sample on the right looks just like when we collected and prepared the samples. The bacteria food we put in there turns the sample yellow. This is the normal, or ‘good’ result so far. Good thing because this sample is from the purified water we’ve been drinking.
If the sample turns black, that means there are bacteria colonies growing and eating the food. The well water in the black sample on the left is definitely indicating the bad result. We have not been drinking this water but this is the source water we are purifying and then drinking. This test shows our little purifier is more than a safety net. We definitely need it.
