Getting ice
In the US, when the power goes out, it makes the evening news. In developing countries, the power goes out mostly everywhere on a daily basis. So refrigeration and everything in an American freezer or fridge is simply not practical. We have no fridge. Only coolers with ice if our supplier remembered to buy the ice that day. Our milk is made from dried milk packets, ‘cheese’ is velveeta only, and fruit is only from the can.

People buy ice from ice trucks that drive down the streets, just like the early 1900′s in the US.
The students and I spent 3 days trying to get an ice maker working that sorta just showed up. But it needs normal water supply at the normal pressure (30-80psi). We only have gravity feed now and have just received a booster pump. Hopefully the camp will have it’s own ice-generating capability soon. Things like that take a long time here. I’m not holding my breath.
