God-Inspired Song
Jay asked me to post the lyrics to a song I wrote a few days ago. It was written in light of the passing of our brother Cherubin last Friday.
I felt inspired to write this song for our Haitian Campus Crusade friends who we have been serving with. They have been through so much sadness and devastation, losing 20 or so of their group during the earthquake, so for them to lose another brother in Christ last Friday was heartbreaking.
I say this song was God-Inspired because the Lord gave me Psalm 46:1-2 as I reflected on the day’s events last Friday. The guitar chords and lyrics literally came together in about 20-30 minutes, which any musician can tell you almost never happens, so God very clearly wrote this song through me.
Verse
God is our refuge, and our strength
An ever-present help in trouble
We will not fear, for you are near
Your love draws me in so close
Bridge
Though the earth give way
And the mountains slip into the sea
Chorus
Lord God, You are the author of salvation
Oh God, You are mighty to save
You are holy, You’re my one and only
I’ll praise you, all of my days
So as our Haitian brothers and sisters showed us so aptly, we can have faith in God as our comforter and strength no matter how large the disaster that comes upon us.
