July 15 – Raymond’s Reflections

What can I say about today other than that it was truly amazing. It began with how no work can be done without the Holy Spirit and through that seeds are planted in every little thing we do.

We took that to heart as we set up many bags of food and supplies. Never before have I seen such a clear picture of what the Bible meant when it said that we are members of the body (church) of Christ, as we poured prayers into each bag that we were going to give to the community of Chambrun. Everyone of us had a task specific to one purpose – to reach the people for the glory of God – driven by His Spirit within us, His body.

Later on we would distribute the bags to the people of Chambrun, but more importantly we preach to them God’s love for them. Daniel and Rachel gave the Haitians of how God has shown his love to them, in their lives. I think it is interesting that we want to love them, in the name of God, but we ended up feeling more loved by them. The excitement of the kids at our presence, even though they knew nothing about us, was truly inspiring. It was our mere presence that gave them joy and they loved us for that. They were so affectionate as they hugged us, played with our hair, even wiped the dust off of our clothes.

What amazed me more is how genuine they were during the Jesus film showing. They were so enthused at Jesus’ miracles and cringed at his suffering and crucifixion, all the while remaining attached to us, feeling so at ease. It broke my heart as one girl, sitting on my lap, so interested in Jesus, making me clap along, hugging me. It seemed like this was the picture all around. Honestly, I am not as genuine and loving for God or others and it gives me great peace that they were so receptive of Christ’s work on the cross as it seemed that all of them accepted Christ into there lives. It is only the second day and all of us admit that already we have a lot to learn from the people of Haiti.
