Mud huts, pigs, and goats

Electricity and clean water are luxuries beyond the reach of Haiti’s poor. Cafe Latte’s and valet parking are literally beyond the desires of those who live in mud huts. When it rains, they have to put another coat of mud on the walls.

Well-meaning givers in the US (including myself) who send macaroni and cheese packets and canned goods are unaware that these people do not know how to make macaroni and cheese, cannot read the English directions, and have never used a can opener.

It takes Americans on the other end to train Hatians to know how to eat the relief food being sent. That is part of what the long term workers here do.
