Our Hearts Are Broken

Our day to celebrate has turned into mourning. Within a half hour of our arrival at the beach, our new Haitian friend, Cherubin drowned. Our life guard trained students and nurses pulled Cherubin out of the water and spent 45 mins in CPR, brought him back and were moving him to hospital when he stopped breathing. 35 more mins in CPR and we couldn’t save him. We’re all terribly broken–we’ve processed some as a team, are flying in some couselors to meet with the team on Sunday or Monday. We’ve got several pastors here as well. The promises of the Scriptures are real. We’re grieving but not as the world grieves. Community sustains.

—— Back to Chambrun

We’re back in Chambrun, hugged our Haitian friends and one another, wrapping up dinner now and will spend some time in worship before a early night to sleep–for those who can sleep. Everyone sober, asking the “what ifs”, turning to one another and the Scriptures. Many have never confronted death, many have seen too much.

Saul leads us in worship…  ”Oh no, You never let go! Through the calm and through the storm, Lord, you never let go of me”
