A Call to Prayer

Posted by National Campus Office :: 10:08 am

In times like these we desperately need God - we need God to meet with us, to comfort us, and to give us perspective. We need to look heavenward to the One who can give grace and pour out His mercy in our time of need.

In view of this, the leadership of Campus Crusade for Christ invites you to join together sometime this Thursday in a concerted gathering to call on God. Perhaps you could invite others in your community to join together with the staff, students, alumni, and laypeople throughout our country to call on the Lord to work in this very difficult situation.

I also think it would be an incredible testimony and blessing to the Virginia Tech community to know there has been such an outpouring of love demonstrated by prayer.

So if God is leading you to join us, would you mind leaving a comment to let us know that you are joining us in prayer? Would you let us know the location (city, state) you will be praying and leave an encouraging note for our Campus Crusade for Christ community at Virginia Tech?

Just to let you know that you are appreciated and we are concerned. Know also that the Lord will not leave you comfortless. neither will he leave you without a testimony.

Just wanted to say My heart is still just breaking over this. As I look at the faces and read the descriptions of these victims, I am just overwhelmed with how much I know God cares and loves them, and how much he loves their friends and family. To him they are not just names on a crawl on CNN or a faded headline long forgotten, but real beautiful lives and he created. Each life mattered so much to him that he went to the cross. I pray so much that each had the chance to say yes to His gift of salvation. I pray so much for the families of those victims that as support wanes with each passing day God’s comfort and peace will grow ever stronger.

Thanks Crusade for all the work you do on campuses everywhere. You certainly helped me get a strong foundation when I first went to Michigan State. I have no doubt you will continue to be used by the LORD to have his message boldy proclaimed at VT in the coming semesters.

Let us not only learn from this terrible act of unjustice that regardless of what we see portrayed of the cross, and what may seem to be our thoughts of HIM, we still have to search to find the blessings that Jesus gives to us. And the only way to find those blessings are by sending God our whole hearts with trust and faith. Let us be willing to accepts God’s True Love.

I just want to say that My heart and prayers will always be with every VT student and I will be praying for peace among us all. I had the chance to meet with a good friend of Lauren McCain and I feel like I know her from all the Good things that were mention of her. God will use her even better as she smiles down on all her christain brothers and sisters. May all the familys of each student know that their love ones are not forgotten.

read the tragedy and am distured by the happenings. It is faith shaking at this moment and thousand of questions may flood one’s mind but knowing that GOD created this universe and all things belong to HIM comforts us.He gives; he takes revenge; he protects.
What can one say except to trust in HIM who is the beginning and the end. GOD BLESS

My heart goes out to all students, faculty, family members. How a seemingly ordinary day can turn into a day that can change one forever. I do know that God can heal wounded minds, bodies, spirits if we are open. We don’t understand why some of these things happen. But I am touched forever by the testimony of one of the victims. She didn’t have to argue about her stand for Jesus, because she KNEW Him. What a simple, yet profound statement! That is my goal to KNOW the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!God bless and touch each one at Virginia Tech.

Please know that I have been praying for healing during this time. May we not stop praying. The moment we stop praying is the moment the evil one tries to step in. In Jesus’ name may all evil get out and stay out of your school, homes and campus. Also remember Jesus already won at the cross. Blessings, Grace

    Dear Ones at Cru,
My heart goes out to you all. Our church had a prayer service on the Thursday after the tragedy and we all prayed for the victims, their families and for the Christians at VT.
Only the Man of Sorrows can truly understand your pain and is with you in it. Cry to Jeusus! He understands and longs to comfort you. Don’t be afraid to weep and mourn. You are safe in Him.
Wishing you deep peace and comfort in the Holy Spirit,

Hello all, It’s the end of April, a few but so many days after the event. I have been praying for each student, faculty member and staff person that works with you. May God wrap and protect your minds, hearts and souls with the knowledge of His goodness and the power of His love. Many stand with you in prayer as you process the loss and horrific sadness on campus. May God give you fond memories and reminders of His grace to comfort your hearts and assure your souls of His steadfast mercy. God, be the BIG GOD of the universe in their lives today. Susan

To all those who have been touched by this horrific tragedy…
My heart and prayers go out to all of you in this most difficult time. My heart shattered when I watched the tragedy unfold on the TV news, and I began to pray right then, and am still praying today for God’s presence, comfort, love, healing, and peace to be showered upon all of you continually today and in all the days to come. I grieve with you and my heart aches deeply for all you have had to endure. May the peace of God which surpasses all understanding be with and in you today and always. May you feel God’s presence and love more intensely than you ever have before. As you can see by all those who have left messages here, you are being lifted in prayer 24/7 all around the world, so I pray you can feel the power of those prayers daily. May God give you all that you need to sustain and strengthen you through the coming months and years. I hope that the healing God has begun in each of you will grow exponentially each day and that you can/will lean on one another, hug each other, cry with each other, whatever you need to make it through each hour, each day, etc. May God’s abundant blessings flow over VT and their families like a soothing & healing waterfall of His Grace, Mercy and Love today and always.

I will be joining many others tomorrow in prayer for you and your campus. Over 25 years ago my church in Texas experienced the same tragedy you have. I am a survivor! That is what we are…Survivors. Those that have gone ahead of us are Heroes and will be remembered as such. The Lord has continued to heal me all these years and I am praying He will do the same and more for you. The Lord’s forgiveness is more powerful than any weapon leveled at us. I encourage those of you who know Christ as your Savior to look to Him and His Word for your healing and spread the good news… the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

The Lord put on my heart to pray for you before I even knew that anyone from Campus Crusade was murdered last week. I told my husband soon after it happened- we need to pray for Cru.

Then I read the profiles of the students in USA Today and cried. Why did the Lord call four Cru students home? Out of proportion statistically to the population at VT.

The Spirit of Him who raised Christ from the dead gave life to these dear Cru children and will give life to all who receive him.

I have prayed for the Lord to be your strength, comfort, wisdom, guidance and peace for all of you in Cru, the families affected and your leadership. I have prayed that we will all realize that we need to “Wake Up!” - our time is short, we are like the mist… Jesus is coming soon.

May the Lord bless you and keep you all. From Minnesota,

We, your followers, your disciples, ask
that you continue to be with VT students, staff, alumni, family, community memebers, friends… all who’ve been affected physically, emotionally, and spiritually by this tragic event. Help them turn to you Lord in this time of saddness, grieving, and heartache. Lord help those of us whohavn’t been heavily affected by giving/ providing whatever support possibly, even if it’s just a prayer. Because we know that something that may seem small to us, is big and can go a long way with you.
Thank you for your grace and your Sons’ sacrifice.

Next Monday we will be able to look back and recount His many acts of lovingkindness and faithfulness to us, His children, throughout this new week that awaits us. With each passing moment of each day, week, month and year, He will heal those affected by this tragedy. His plan is already in motion to work each aspect of this sadness for good, as we love Him and passionately pursue His calling. Good, God, and the people of VT will prevail.

Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is writtem: ‘For your sake we face death all day long, we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present not the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom. 8:34b-39

    From Anacortes, Washington

We are so encouraged by the outpouring of prayer and are joining in prayer for all who were impacted by this tragedy. Our God is the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, as written in Galatians 1:3-4. There is no better comfort than His as found in Scripture:

Psalm 9:9-10 “The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know Your name will trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.”

    A message of hope:
Galatians 1:3 “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

We pray that many will recognize their need for God and come to salvation through Jesus Christ as a result of this time of grief. May God strengthen and equip you all as you serve Him on campuses across America bring His message to those who are grieving. Thank you for serving our Lord in this way!

    1. Please pray for the Korean community in the US and for the murderer’s family who are impacted by the actions of one of their members. Many immigrant Koreans because of thier group idenification world view feel shame and guilt for the murderer’s actions. He was a member of their community who got very lost and they didn’t help him. They are very concerned that Americans will attack them in some way because of this tortured individual’s actions or that they will be profiled. They believe the family of the murderer to be under FBI protection because of this. Pray for the murderer’s family as the shame that this incident brings could very well result in suicide.

We are so sorry for the students, the husbands and wives and children and brothers and sisters and parents who have lost their loved ones. We have been praying for them all since the terrible thing happened. We are trusting God to do a wonderful thing. There is always something good that comes out of something bad. We are praying that many will come to know Christ as their personal Savior.

My prayers have been going up for the students and faculty of Virginia Tech in this tragic loss of life on their campus. I pray that the Lord will comfort and heal the hurts the families are suffering now. I, myself, have six of my grandchildren attending six separate colleges and universities in the USA and in England. I pray for them in my daily prayers and I wept for the grandparents of these precious souls who were in the massacre. I will continue to pray for changes that will allow the troubled to get help before more of our children are victimized. May God comfort you all in His love.

I was on staff with the Navigators at Kent State University for two years, so in a small way, I feel like I know where VT could be in 20 or 30 years. The May 4, 1970 shootings of 4 people during a Vietnam War protest have defined that campus. In many ways, the administration and even the town refuse to move on, despite the fact that current and recent students would like to.

I am praying (along with my entire workplace at Nav HQ) that VT and the Blacksburg community will be known for the depth of Love and forgiveness, not just what happened on Monday. I am seeing it continuously through interviews and comments from students there. I am praying for all of you and the other organizational staff, for your interactions with students, for the trickle-down effect that is sure to occur as students try to return so some sense of normalcy. It is a sad opportunity to turn people toward Jesus, but I believe we have seen in past events (9/11, tsunami, Katrina) just how much God can and will be glorified through tragic circumstances. Christ’s own death was viewed by many to be terribly violent and inexplicable. But God chose to use it to bring us all to Him. I am praising God in advance for the glory we cannot yet see.

Class of ‘91, praying for you out in Redmond, WA

My heart breaks this week to see one of the places on this earth that I most fondly remember linked with the words massacre, tragedy, murder and evil. My prayers for comfort and peace are with the families and students who have lost children and friends. More important than our common Hokie bond is the eternal link we share through Christ. Though the ones we know who were believers are gone from this earth now, we have the comfort and hope of knowing that we will see them again. May God be glorified for the lives that were lived for Him.

    I’m Still Here

Friend, please don’t mourn for me
I’m still here, though you don’t see.
I’m right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I’m always near.
I’m everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I’ll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I’ll never wander out of your sight-
I’m the brightest star on a summer night.
I’ll never be beyond your reach-
I’m the warm moist sand when you’re at the beach.

I’m the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I’m the beautiful flowers of which you’re so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.

I’m the first bright blossom you’ll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I’m the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you’ll see that the face in the moon is mine.

When you start thinking there’s no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I’ll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you’ll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I’m the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I’m the smile you see on a baby’s face.
Just look for me, friend, I’m everyplace!

This young man did not get the help he so badly needed and as a result, our young children and teachers and the whole Va. Tech coomunity had to pay the ultimate price. I am saddened that these young people did not know that they were not going to come back home that day, not the instructors know that they would take a bullet to save his students lives! This truly breaks my heart. but be strong in knowing that god knows best. We all must go thru tragedies of all sorts going thru this life. be strong and always continue to trust the Lord. He will strenghten us all, this nation and the world that this young man brought on us. Stay close to your families, never leave them without saying I love you,a nd then when seeing them return, hugging them like there would be no tomorrow.

Many immigrant Koreans because of thier group idenification world view feel shame and guilt for the murderer’s actions. He was a member of their community who got very lost and they didn’t help him. They are very concerned that Americans will attack them in some way because of this tortured individual’s actions or that they will be profiled. They believe the family of the murderer to be uder FBI protection because of this. Pray for the murderer’s family as the shame that this incident brings could very well result in suicide.

I am so blessed when I see the number of students embracing in prayer and seeking the Lord for strength and grace. Our family will be lifting you up before our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We are praying your eyes will be lifted up and drawn to our Savior who endured immense suffering alone so that in our suffering, we are never alone. These are the times when even in your weakness you have been given a megaphone to speak of Him to the watching world. Praying you will have strength and grace to communicate the beauties of Christ beyond the tragedies of this life, and that it will serve as a healing balm to your entire community and lead many to ultimate rest in Him.

had not received this until tonight, but a friend & I had spent an hour in prayer this morning, as we do every Thursday.
I respectfully suggest that you omitted one vital prayer need - the family and loved ones of the shooter. They are undoubtedly sufferring unbelievable pain not only in their loss, but the shame and sorrow for his actions. Having lost three closest friends & our favorite teacher in a hotel fire when we were seniors in high school in 1946 I do have some knowledge and background for empathizing. I can assure you that God is still on duty. Always has been, always wull be, and He WILL give you comfort & peace if you allow Him to. p

After discussions at work today, we came to the conclusion that without having the teachings of right and wrong in our schools; which are found in the Bible and in Prayers, the people in our schools are taught by liberal teachers who, in justifying their views on our children, we end up with the events of Columbine and Virginia Tech to sensationalize the news for profit, and not teach the Good News found in the Bible for our salvation and life eternal through the adherence to the Ten Commandments, the foundation for the Constitutional Law in the United States. This is evident by the doors in the Capital building in Washington D.C., where Moses is holding the Ten Commandments in his hands. It is the liberal judges in this country, along with lawyers, who want to destroy the moral fabric which has made this nation great in the decades and centuries of its past. We need to return to this morality not allow it to decay by allowing the immoral to be aloud and moral fiber of the country to be destroyed by those who wish to justify their evil ways and their quest for evil power as demonstrated by this very tragic event at Virginia Tech. If we learn anything from this, let us learn that if one is taught right from wrong and not that wrong is acceptable, that these events would not become more prolific in todays society. It is time to make a stand for the good in the world not turn the other way when people promote the evils of the world and not the power of the Holy Spirit which is in each one of us, if we only receive it and use it for the betterment of mankind not the destruction of mankind by such evil acts by those who have not been taught right from wrong and who do not know the truth and what is right as can be found in the Bible. My prayers go out to the people on the campus of Virginia Tech and we all know that through God’s Grace we can be comforted in such times of grief and sorrow. Let us learn the right way to be righteous and overcome the evils in our society. In God we Pray, Peace Be with You. It is certainly tragic, that it takes an event like this to allow prayer at school.

The word “renew” means to Change ….The Promise of God is as we wait upon Him He’ll change our strength from natural strength to super natural strength. from our strength to His stength
The only place to find rest from the storm is in His strength. The only place to find comfort is in His strength.

May our Lord’s comfort and healing deeply minister to all involved.

Have been praying since the first news came on TV.
Tonight on the news, one of the victims said he forgave the killer. Praise the Lord, that is the beginning of healing.
May He give us the grace to pray for his family, also.
Feel His arms around each of you, pouring out His love to you.
    Because He lives and cares.

Psalm 27:13 - “I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.”

Our Loving Father’s heart must be aching and at the same time He is ready to comfort us.

Christ is the Master whose touch is tender in the midst of suffering. May He tenderly touch those who are seeking comfort. May He make himself known to those who are searching for answers. May He use those who are His at VA Tech to transform death into victory, pain into peace. Your sister in Christ from Boston, Susan

Lifting you up in NY to the Lord who is “our strength and our shield, an ever present help in times of trouble.” He was present during the 9/11 attacks, and He was present on Monday… and from this tragedy, He will bring much good. Praying for you as staff and students who are ministering in the aftermath….

I wanted to let you know that I have contacted my friend in radio and also asked my brother-in-law the pastor to pray today at 7:00pm in his class. I live in Denver and although was not close to the Columbine tragedy, and cannot understand what you are going through, I see the pain and the hurt. God Bless to all the students of this world as he reveals his glory that will come from this.
